The third edition of the “Moroccan Craft Treasures” program was launched to enhance cultural identity and transfer skills to future generations.
Under the auspices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, the Ministry of Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, in partnership with UNESCO, organized a launch event in Rabat on Tuesday. The program’s theme is: “From the Heritage of Ancestors to the Creativity of Descendants: Youth Safeguarding Moroccan Identity.”
The program aims to preserve endangered traditional crafts and pass on skills and knowledge to the younger generation through training opportunities with skilled artisans who carry this cultural heritage, fostering values of excellence and creativity while affirming Morocco’s authentic identity.
The thirdedition of the program continues following the success of the previous two editions (2023 and 2024). Fifteen new artisans have been added to the list of “Moroccan Craft Treasures,” who will mentor 150 young men and women, bringing the total number of treasures to 32 and beneficiaries to 307.
In his speech, Mr. Lahcen Saadi, the Secretary of State responsible for Crafts, emphasized the program’s goal of expanding the circle of beneficiaries to include various regions of the kingdom and all social segments, including prisoners as part of social integration initiatives. Agreements have also been signed to extend the program into the southern regions of the kingdom to enhance community involvement and ensure the continuity of craft skills.
Mr. Cherif Ahmid, UNESCO Director for the Maghreb, affirmed UNESCO’s pride in supporting the Ministry’s efforts to preserve threatened craft knowledge and skills, considering the program a living example of strong partnerships between national and international institutions for preserving cultural diversity and promoting sustainable economic development.
The third edition features fifteen distinguished crafts in various fields such as equestrian art, leather, wood, and textiles, led by skilled artisans from different regions of the kingdom. Additionally, an agreement has been signed to extend the partnership with UNESCO until 2031, further solidifying the program’s sustainability and status as a driver of cultural and regional development, while celebrating Moroccan heritage that embodies the living memory of the people and serves as a source of inspiration for new generations.
