The Moroccan Association of Mental Health Professionals has issued a strong condemnation of illegal practices carried out by parties claiming to establish a union without any legal framework governing the profession of psychologists in Morocco. The association deemed these behaviors to be in direct contradiction to ethical and union principles, tarnishing civil work regulated by law.
The statement pointed out that these parties resorted to defamation, slander, insult, extortion, and fabrication, using personal data without legal justification, claiming authorities that the laws governing associations and professional unions, including the royal decree No. 1.58.376 issued on November 15, 1958, and the decree of July 16, 1957, do not grant them.
The association affirmed that advocating for a legal framework to define and specify the psychologist’s role in Morocco is a legitimate and urgent demand, which must be pursued within official and civil institutions per applicable laws, away from extortion and defamation practices.
It reiterated its full solidarity with its president, members, psychology professors at Ibn Tofail University, graduates of master’s programs, and the National Union of Clinical Psychologists in Morocco, in confronting attempts of media defamation and extortion.
The statement urged all affected parties to resort to constitutional legal procedures to hold accountable those responsible for these practices, emphasizing that the association will continue to defend itself and its members in accordance with the laws and legislation in force.
The Moroccan Association of Mental Health Professionals confirmed that its activities and headquarters are legally and fully documented with the relevant authorities, asserting that any challenge to its legitimacy carries implications of undermining and disrupting official and professional institutions.
