The Consulate General of Morocco in Algeciras is preparing today to repatriate the bodies of the four members of a Moroccan family who tragically suffocated in Torrox, a town in the province of Malaga, southern Spain, due to carbon monoxide leaking from a malfunctioning heating device inside their home.

The consulate confirmed that all logistical and administrative arrangements have been made for the transfer of the bodies to Morocco via the Algeciras port, before reaching the province of Berrechid for burial. It noted that the Moroccan government will cover all costs related to the repatriation process.

Details of the tragic incident reveal that a couple in their fifties and their two children, aged 17 and 19, died from suffocation caused by carbon monoxide leakage while they were asleep. Initial investigations suggested that a malfunction in the home’s heating system was the cause.

This disaster has brought widespread grief among the Moroccan community in Spain and in the family’s hometown, amid calls for caution regarding the dangers of heating devices during the winter season.
