Rabat and Tel Aviv are nearing the reopening of airspace… Advanced discussions for the resumption of direct flights after a year of suspension
Israeli channel “i24 News,” citing Channel 12, reported that advanced discussions are currently underway between Morocco and Israel aimed at resuming direct flights between the two countries, which have been halted since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023.
According to the report, intensive communications have been reactivated in recent weeks among the authorities responsible for transport, civil aviation, and security on both sides, seen as an indication of a potential return to the halted air connections amidst the ongoing developments in the region.
The channel added that the Israeli Minister of Transport recently communicated with senior officials from her ministry and their counterparts in Morocco, agreeing to commence the technical and administrative preparations for resuming flights, pending the official announcement of a launch date.
The report indicated that direct flights between Tel Aviv and several Moroccan cities could resume in the coming months, provided there are no new developments that could disrupt the ongoing agreements.
This step comes at a time of relative stagnation in Moroccan-Israeli relations since the events of last October, following a notable momentum after the signing of the diplomatic relations resumption agreement in December 2020, which was followed by exchanges of delegations and the launch of direct flights between both sides.
