The Ministry of Transport and Logistics led a series of high-level meetings in London, where Minister Abdessamad Qiyuh held discussions on Monday with several African ministers and officials on the sidelines of the 34th session of the International Maritime Organization.

The minister began his meetings by convening with Kenya’s Minister of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Ali Joho. Both sides explored ways to expand maritime cooperation between Morocco and Kenya through knowledge exchange and capacity building. The Kenyan official emphasized the importance of maritime training in strengthening ties between the two nations and reaffirmed Nairobi’s commitment to enhancing coordination with Rabat within the international organization.

The discussions continued with Nigeria’s Minister of Marine Economy and Blue Economy, Oyetola Adigbogha, where both parties discussed prospects for developing partnerships, particularly in training and expertise exchange.

Qiyuh also met with the President of the Maritime Authority of Liberia, Nito Zarzar Leigh, where the two addressed various issues related to the maritime sector, including technical cooperation and skill development. The Liberian official praised the advanced level of Morocco’s maritime infrastructure, expressing his country’s interest in benefiting from Morocco’s experience, especially within the framework of the Atlantic Initiative led by King Mohammed VI to open new horizons for Sahel countries toward the Atlantic Ocean.

The Moroccan minister reiterated the Kingdom’s readiness to enhance maritime cooperation with African nations, announcing the national institutions, led by the Higher Institute of Maritime Studies, are prepared to welcome African students in various training programs. He also expressed Morocco’s willingness to share its expertise both within the international organization and through bilateral maritime cooperation agreements.
