Novo Nordisk Launches “Semaglutide” Treatment for Type 2 Diabetes in Morocco

Novo Nordisk held a prestigious scientific event in Marrakech on November 1, 2025, to officially announce the launch of its new treatment “Semaglutide,” specifically designed for patients with type 2 diabetes. The treatment is available in different concentrations of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, and 1 mg. The event brought together over 400 national and international health professionals and experts to discuss strategies for developing an integrated therapeutic approach to tackle this chronic disease and its serious health complications.

Type 2 diabetes is one of the key health challenges facing Morocco, with estimates revealing that around 2.6 million people are affected. Its complications, such as heart and kidney diseases, are among the main reasons for the need for precise and advanced treatment approaches.

In this context, Professor Nawal Al-Ansari, Head of the Endocrinology Department at Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech, confirmed that “Semaglutide” represents a qualitative leap in diabetes treatment, stating:

“This medication establishes a new standard in managing the disease and helps reduce the risks of serious complications, provided that the condition is managed based on precise scientific principles and effective medical follow-up.”

For her part, Dr. Ola Al-Rifa’i, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Morocco, expressed her pride in the launch of “Semaglutide” in the national market, noting that the new treatment allows patients to control their blood sugar levels with a single weekly injection, thereby enhancing their daily quality of life and providing them with greater flexibility in managing their chronic illness.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Her Excellency Ms. Britt Bas, the Danish Ambassador to Morocco, who expressed her happiness at the vital role Novo Nordisk plays through its fruitful partnerships with Moroccan associations specializing in endocrine and diabetes diseases. She affirmed that this cooperation embodies a genuine commitment to improving the quality of healthcare for diabetes patients, thanks to ongoing innovation in the pharmaceutical field.

The scientific event featured the participation of a distinguished group of national and international experts, including Professor Bruno Gherzi, Professor Asmaa Chadhli, Professor Hind Al-Iraqi, Professor Sihem Al-Aziz, and Professor Hassan Al-Ghamari, alongside Professors Paolo Vadini and Atul Pathak. They presented precise scientific seminars highlighting the positive impact of “Semaglutide” on metabolic indicators, as well as its role in reducing the risk of heart and kidney complications.

An interactive workshop was also held, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of the clinical differences among various cases, emphasizing the importance of adopting a personalized therapeutic approach that responds to each patient’s specifics to ensure treatment efficacy and improve outcomes.

“Semaglutide” is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that effectively balances blood sugar levels and supports weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes. Clinical studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in providing protective benefits for the heart and kidneys, with positive results extending beyond glucose control to include the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
