Marrakech.. Moroccan-French Talks to Strengthen Security Cooperation and Address Sahel Threats
Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit held a meeting today in Marrakech with his French counterpart Laurent Nunez, reaffirming the solid security partnership between Rabat and Paris, particularly in light of shared challenges surrounding migration and counter-terrorism.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior indicated that both sides discussed various issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation, recalling the foundations of this coordination, which are rooted in mutual trust, continuous communication, and alignment of views on strategically significant matters.
The ministers noted that this cooperation aligns with the spirit of the exceptional partnership signed by King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron during the state visit in October 2024, which injected a strong impetus into bilateral relations.
Concerning migration, both sides reiterated their appreciation for the role played by the joint Moroccan-French working group on migration, viewing it as a practical framework for dialogue, coordination, and collaborative management of this issue.
Discussions also prominently featured the threats posed by terrorist groups and criminal networks, especially in the Sahel and Sahara regions. The ministers emphasized the necessity of enhancing information and expertise exchanges, as well as developing cooperation mechanisms to effectively counter these rising dangers.
