Abdelouafi Laftit: Ensuring the Integrity of Upcoming Elections is a Priority for Responsible Political Competition
Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit affirmed that preparations for the upcoming legislative elections are being conducted with a focus on ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and enhancing ethical standards in political practice, in line with the royal directives from the Throne Speech.
Laftit explained, during a presentation of his ministry’s budget before the Interior Committee of the House of Representatives, that the Ministry of Interior has engaged in a series of consultations with various political parties aimed at discussing the general framework for organizing the upcoming elections. These consultations have led to the drafting of three draft laws regarding the organization of the House of Representatives, political parties, electoral lists, referendum procedures, and the use of public media during campaigns.
The minister noted that these draft laws are currently under review by the parliamentary committee, emphasizing that the main challenge is to provide transparent and equal conditions for competition between parties and to establish trust in the electoral process.
Regarding public support, Laftit clarified that the ministry has allocated the funds designated for the parties for the year 2025 while urging political bodies to regularize their status with the public treasury, based on observations from the Court of Auditors regarding the 2023 accounts.
He also addressed the work of the Women’s Representation Support Fund, reminding that the supervising committee held two meetings in 2024 and 2025 to present new amendments to the legal framework and to conduct a periodic evaluation of funded projects. In the tenth session, 200 projects were submitted across 67 provinces, out of which 90 were selected to receive funding totaling nearly 12 million dirhams from total costs exceeding 16 million dirhams.
