Leila Benali chaired the third meeting of the Board of Directors of the Central Purchasing and Development Authority for the Mining Region of Tafilalet and Figuig (CADETAF) on Friday, October 31, 2025.

The meeting was dedicated to assessing the achievements of 2025, presenting work programs for the 2025-2027 period, approving accounts and budgets, as well as reviewing the authority’s accomplishments in developing the local mining sector.

Benali emphasized that the meeting takes place within a national context characterized by accelerated major reforms initiated by King Mohammed VI to enhance governance and economic efficiency. She highlighted that the mining sector represents a strategic lever for industrial and energy sovereignty, advocating for a shift from exporting raw materials to manufacturing value-added minerals as a national necessity.

She pointed out that the authority plays a crucial role in guiding traditional miners, providing technical and organizational support to create new job opportunities and encourage responsible investment in mining areas.

Benali also called for the development of the institution’s governance through digitalization and transparency, while improving financial and administrative performance, considering the modernization of management methods as a critical challenge to enhance the authority’s productivity.

The board approved recommendations aimed at accelerating the new structuring of the institution, qualifying the laboratory for analysis, completing the digital transformation project, and carrying out a mid-term evaluation of the authority’s performance to set future development priorities.

During the meeting, a framework agreement was signed for cooperation in the fields of geology, minerals, and energy in the Tafilalet region, aimed at supporting exploration and enhancing technical infrastructure in line with Morocco’s energy transition and sustainable development goals.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the minister conducted field visits to several mining projects in the region, including the “Boumadine” project managed by Boumadine Global Mining and a traditional mining site in the city of Jorf.

The visit provided insights into the progress of mining operations and the challenges faced by local stakeholders, along with discussions on ways to strengthen cooperation to develop the sector and support economic and social development in the region.
