A construction worker has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal in El Jadida after being convicted of intentional murder with premeditation.
The suspect was arrested by national security forces in Temara following a nationwide search warrant issued for his involvement in the killing of his friend, who worked alongside him in the construction field in the industrial area of Moulay Abdullah.
Details of the crime date back to 2022, when the victim’s body was discovered on the rocky shores of Moulay Abdullah, near the weekly market known as “Al Hamra,” bearing deep wounds. Investigators were able to identify the victim and his place of residence, revealing that he was from Azilal and worked in construction.
Investigations indicated that the suspect, the victim’s friend, disappeared immediately after the crime was uncovered, raising suspicions about him, which led the public prosecutor in El Jadida to issue a nationwide search alert.
After his arrest, the suspect was placed in custody, where he initially denied his involvement but later confessed to the crime. He explained that a dispute over winnings from a gambling game known as “Tirsi,” worth 40,000 dirhams, was the cause of the incident, as he had asked for his share from his friend, who refused to give it to him, claiming he had lost the receipt.
He further stated that the argument escalated into a fight, during which he used the victim’s knife, which was intended for cutting cannabis, and struck him twice in the neck, resulting in his death. He then fled to his hometown in Azilal.
The court sentenced the suspect to life imprisonment after presenting him before it, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and his determination to commit it.
