Airbus Strengthens Its Presence in Morocco and Plans to Expand the Aviation Industry

Water Vaan Wersch, the Executive Vice President of Airbus International, affirmed that Morocco possesses “all the necessary factors” to develop a competitive aviation industry, praising local skills, political stability, and the kingdom’s strategic location.

In statements reported by various media, Vaan Wersch indicated that Morocco is a “key country” for the company, with potential to expand local manufacturing activities to include final assembly of aircraft such as the A220 and A321.

He added that Airbus employs about 1,100 people directly in its Moroccan factories, while approximately 10,000 individuals work in the local supply and contractor network, noting that the company’s annual procurement volume from Morocco reaches around €700 million.

Vaan Wersch pointed out that Morocco has a strong educational environment, including institutions like the Institute of Aviation Professions (IMA) and ISMALA, which contribute to training the necessary national competencies to support the growth of the aviation sector.

The executive explained that the company aims to enhance the value chain in Morocco, not only in civil aviation but also in the defense sector, by developing industrial and logistical integration and strengthening strategic partnerships with international investors such as Safran and Spirit AeroSystems, which operates a factory in Casablanca.

Vaan Wersch’s statements come as Airbus seeks to establish Morocco as an attractive hub for aviation investments, thereby enhancing the kingdom’s position in global aviation value chains and creating extensive job opportunities and developing domestic industry in the coming years.
