Agadir: Zakiya Driouch Inspects Marine Manufacturing Units and Shipbuilding Workshops
On Friday, State Secretary for Fisheries, Zakiya Driouch, conducted a field visit to several industrial units specializing in the valorization of marine products, along with two shipbuilding workshops in the Souss-Massa region.
Accompanying Driouch on this visit were the head of the regional council and institutional officials. She reviewed the processing, transformation, storage, and maritime construction capabilities of a number of industrial units, including:
- MIRA FISH: Processing capacity of 50 tons per day, with an annual production of 186 tons, employing 12 permanent and 50 seasonal workers, with an investment of 10 million dirhams.
- Frigoríficos Pina Pesca: Capacity of 120 tons per day, annual production of 24,000 tons, storage capacity of 1,300 tons, with an investment reaching 65 million dirhams.
- Fish & Food Process: Processing 95 tons per day, daily production of 84 tons, storage capacity of 460 tons, with a cooling unit of 500 tons, and an investment of 11 million dirhams.
Driouch also visited the Souss-Massa shipbuilding workshops, established in 2009, which have built 43 vessels between 2017 and 2025, including 36 under the Moroccan flag, employing 40 workers. However, the limited infrastructure at Agadir port restricts shipbuilding to vessels shorter than 40 meters.
As of October 2025, the Agadir maritime zone recorded a catch volume of 68,492 tons, valued at 2.8 billion dirhams. The active fleet includes 1,803 units and 16,106 fishermen. The regional industrial sector comprises 107 units providing around 15,000 direct job opportunities, while 2024 exports totaled 121,232 tons, valued at 7.03 billion dirhams.
During her visit, Driouch held meetings with professional bodies in the region to discuss current challenges and methods to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the fisheries sector.
