Title: 27 Attacks on 25 Mosques in 3 Months in Britain
During the past three months, Britain witnessed 27 attacks on 25 mosques, with Christian symbols or flags of Britain and the United Kingdom used in 41 percent of these incidents. This information was reported by the Muslim Council of Britain on Friday, which noted that only one attack was recorded against a mosque in July.
The number of mosques that experienced attacks rose to 7 in August, and 18 in September and October. The report highlighted that some mosques were targeted more than once during this period.
The attacks included the hanging or leaving of Christian or national symbols, graffiti on walls, vandalism, and attempted arson. The report indicated that the total of four attacks occurred between February and July, which surged to 27 in the following three months, showing a marked increase in the use of religious or national flags and symbols.
It noted that 41 percent of the attacks involved the use of the UK flag, Christian symbols, and religious slogans, while 11 percent contained inciting phrases and hostility towards Muslims. Some incidents were classified as mere vandalism, while others were characterized by premeditation and attempts to endanger the lives of worshippers.
Muslims in Britain feel that these attacks reflect a rejection of their presence in society due to their beliefs. The report also criticized the British police for their inadequate response to the victims of these attacks.
According to the report, the executive director of the Muslim Council of Britain, Ilke Ahmed, stated that “hatred against Muslims in Britain has become more apparent and dangerous, and mosques are being targeted alarmingly. The current situation is unacceptable and requires urgent concrete actions.”
Ahmed added that around 4 million Muslims in the country should feel as safe as others, emphasizing that “this report serves as a wake-up call for everyone; something has shifted for the worse, and as a nation, we must steer things back on track.”
