Warnings About Smuggling Operations via International Transport Trucks to Morocco

The Moroccan Association for International Road Transport has warned of an increase in smuggling operations involving high-value goods, particularly smartphones, within trucks coming from Europe to Morocco. The association considers this phenomenon a genuine threat to the international transport sector, directly affecting the reputation of honest professionals in the field.

In a statement, the association clarified that some drivers, whom it described as “dishonest,” are smuggling goods subject to customs declaration without the knowledge of the transport companies they work for, aiming for personal financial gains. This leads to severe legal and administrative repercussions for the companies, despite their lack of direct responsibility for these violations.

The association emphasized that such practices result in the seizure of trucks and heavy fines for companies, negatively impacting the image and credibility of Moroccan businesses in the eyes of their commercial partners both domestically and internationally.

The association firmly rejects these behaviors and calls on involved drivers to immediately cease such practices that harm the profession and the interests of all those operating within it. It also stressed the necessity to enhance professional awareness and strict oversight within the sector to protect the interests of companies and Morocco’s standing in international road transport.
