American President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of his peace plan for Gaza. He wrote on his social media platform (Truth Social): “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have together agreed to the first phase of our peace plan.”
The American president added: “This means that all hostages will soon be released, and Israel will withdraw its forces to an agreed-upon line, which are the first steps towards achieving a strong, lasting, and eternal peace.”
He also emphasized that there will be “fair” dealings with all parties, extending special thanks to Qatar and Egypt for their mediation efforts.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Trump hinted that he might head to the Middle East at the weekend in preparation for announcing a ceasefire in Gaza.
Last week, Trump announced a “comprehensive” peace plan, asserting that once the parties agree to it, this plan, which includes 20 points, will enable an “immediate” end to the war.
