The Public Prosecution Authority presented the “Guide to Procedural Standards for Children in Migratory Situations in Morocco” today, Thursday, at its headquarters in Rabat. The event was chaired by the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation and head of the Public Prosecution Authority, Hicham Plawi, and attended by representatives from international organizations and several members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Morocco.
The preparation of this guide comes as part of a partnership between the Public Prosecution Authority and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), within the framework of national efforts to enhance the protection of children’s rights, particularly unaccompanied migrant children, in line with the royal directives concerning migration and the international commitments of the Kingdom.
Hicham Plawi confirmed that the guide serves as a practical reference for unifying the interventions of various stakeholders in the protection of children in migratory situations by adopting clear standards and measurable indicators that ensure the best interests of the child. It also aims to guarantee access for migrant children to education, health, social protection, and justice, as well as to provide suitable accommodation conditions.
The head of the Public Prosecution Authority emphasized the importance of continuous coordination between national institutions and international partners to ensure comprehensive and sustainable care for this group, starting from identity verification to implementing permanent solutions and accompanying children in their integration paths.
In closing, Plawi expressed his appreciation for UNICEF’s support and the efforts of judges and officials who contributed to the preparation of the guide, affirming that this step represents a qualitative addition to the development of the criminal policy protecting childhood in Morocco, in alignment with the constitution and international human rights standards.
