On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10 each year, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights sent an open letter to the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Health and Interior, calling for urgent measures to improve the conditions of individuals suffering from mental disorders and to ensure their right to care and treatment.

The association pointed out that many patients live in difficult conditions on the streets and in marginalized neighborhoods, without access to adequate medical care or social support, exposing them to various risks concerning their health and human dignity.

It also highlighted the limited capacity of specialized mental health centers and hospitals, emphasizing that some institutions have closed their doors in recent years, exacerbating the pressure on remaining facilities.

In its letter, the association urged that mental health be integrated into public policy priorities, with enhanced human resources and infrastructure dedicated to this sector, improved conditions for receiving and treating patients, and support for families that bear the burden of care in the absence of institutional solutions.
