The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration has initiated legal action against a promoter of false claims regarding the Aït Melloul prison.

In a clarifying statement, the Delegation refuted allegations contained in a circulated video featuring a person with a criminal background. The individual claimed there were “deaths among prisoners” at the local Aït Melloul prison and that “medical assistance was not provided to injured inmates,” alongside accusations of “torture, rape, and psychological intimidation of minors.”

The Delegation confirmed that these allegations are baseless, indicating that there have been no recorded deaths among detainees incarcerated in connection with the recent riots, either in Aït Melloul 1 or Aït Melloul 2. It further specified that only four minors were injured, and their health conditions are stable, with ongoing medical follow-ups from the institution’s medical staff.

Regarding the housing conditions for minor detainees, the Delegation detailed that special rooms have been allocated to them, meeting the required health standards. It emphasized that the claims of torture, rape, or psychological intimidation are purely fabricated. The statement added that juvenile detainees are considered a vulnerable group within prison institutions and are treated with regard to their specific situation, ensuring their dignity is preserved.

In light of the serious nature of the accusations in the recording, the General Delegation announced its decision to file an official complaint against the individual involved with the competent public prosecutor’s office to take the necessary legal actions.
