Morocco’s Energy Strategy Through the Lens of Italian Newspaper “La Regione”

In an analysis published by the Italian newspaper “La Regione” on Wednesday, it was confirmed that Morocco is solidifying its position as a key player in the global energy transition by combining tangible projects with a strategic vision that enhances its role in renewable energy.

The newspaper highlighted that the kingdom has become a link between Europe and Africa, thanks to its ability to blend innovation, regional cooperation, and environmental strategy.

Morocco aims to cover more than half of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2030. Among the ongoing projects, the newspaper pointed out the Noor Midelt II and III solar power plants, describing them as “essential for ensuring the stability of the electricity grid and enabling more flexible use of the produced energy.”

Green hydrogen occupies a central place in this national strategy, with the kingdom allocating over one million hectares for projects aimed at local and foreign investors. The newspaper noted that “Morocco’s energy plan aims to make hydrogen an active component of the national economy through its industrial applications, advanced energy storage, and export potential to Europe.”

“La Regione” added that Morocco’s geographic location, competitive production costs, and proximity to the European market make it “an ideal partner for ensuring European energy security,” emphasizing that the country aspires to become a major center for exporting clean energy while enhancing the role of marine and oceanic resources in this transition.
