Strengthening Moroccan-British Cooperation in Transportation: Passenger Traffic Expected to Rise by Over 22% in 2025
Cooperation between Morocco and the United Kingdom continues to strengthen, particularly in the transportation sector. On Tuesday in Rabat, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdel Samad Kayouh, welcomed British Ambassador to Morocco, Alex Binfield, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral partnership in this vital area.
Both sides praised the quality of relations between the two countries, which are based on strong friendship and mutual respect. They affirmed their alignment on many issues of common interest, emphasizing the close coordination between the capitals on strategic international matters.
Significant Growth in Air Traffic Between the Two Countries
Minister Kayouh highlighted the increasing dynamism of air transport between Morocco and the United Kingdom, noting that the number of passengers traveling between the two countries exceeded two million during the first eight months of 2025, representing a 22.64% increase compared to the same period last year.
Kayouh explained that this activity is supported by several major airlines, including Ryanair UK Limited, Royal Air Maroc, EasyJet Airline Co. LTD, Jet2.com, British Airways PLC, and Air Arabia Maroc.
Bilateral Agreement to Enhance Air Transport
The cooperation between the two countries in aviation is based on the bilateral air transport services agreement signed in 2017, which allows for multiple airline involvement and enshrines price liberalization and utilization of transportation rights while encouraging collaboration between Moroccan and British airlines.
The minister also pointed out that international air passenger traffic between the two countries recorded an annual growth rate of 9.17% between 2009 and 2019, reflecting the robustness and productivity of cooperation in the air transport sector.
