Spain Suspends Live Cattle Exports to Morocco Due to Skin Disease Outbreak
Spanish authorities have announced the suspension of live cattle exports to Morocco following the detection of cases of the contagious skin disease in certain areas of Spain.
The National Office for Food Safety confirmed that this virus affects only cattle and does not transmit to humans, causing nodules and lesions on the skin of infected animals. The office added that the Spanish decision pertains solely to the import of live animals and does not include red meat.
The same source indicated that Morocco has not reported any cases of the disease within its territory so far, while outbreaks have been identified in other European countries since June 2025, with 68 cases recorded in Italy and 79 in France.
