Sebastian Lecornu’s Resignation as French Prime Minister
On Monday, Sebastian Lecornu submitted his resignation to French President Emmanuel Macron, who accepted it, as announced in an official statement from the Élysée Palace. Consequently, Lecornu is no longer the head of the French government.
Lecornu, who was appointed on September 9, faced intense criticism from opponents and even from some segments of the right after revealing part of his government formation on Sunday. He was scheduled to present his policy statement to the National Assembly on Tuesday, but he will not have the opportunity to do so after his resignation.
This resignation adds to the complexity of the political crisis currently facing France. Lecornu is set to explain his position and the reasons for his resignation at 10:45 AM from the Prime Minister’s office at Hôtel de Matignon.
