Royal Air Maroc Strengthens Its Presence in the Southern Regions by Launching New Flight Routes
Royal Air Maroc has launched a robust plan to expand its domestic flight network towards the southern regions of the Kingdom, a strategic move aimed at supporting territorial, economic, and tourism development, as well as facilitating the movement of citizens across various regions of the country.
As part of its ongoing commitment to connecting remote areas and promoting domestic tourism, the national airline announced the launch of new flight routes and the enhancement of several existing flights to the cities of Laayoune, Dakhla, Smara, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan.
This plan comes within the framework of partnerships involving Royal Air Maroc and the regions of Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, and Guelmim-Wadi Noun, as part of a comprehensive national strategy for air connectivity between various regions of the Kingdom. This aligns with the High Royal Directions aimed at achieving balanced development and enhancing territorial integration.
Since 2005, the company has recorded a steady growth in its flight offerings in the southern regions, with the number of weekly flights increasing from just 6 to 63 by 2025, equating to nearly one million seats annually.
Hamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, stated: “The development of domestic air routes, particularly from the southern regions, falls within our national mission and aligns with the High Royal Directions. We aim to ensure seamless connectivity between different regions and facilitate the movement of citizens, while supporting social and economic dynamics across the entire national territory.”
New Routes from Marrakech to the South
October 2025 witnessed the inauguration of two new air routes from Marrakech:
- Marrakech-Laayoune: Two weekly flights (Wednesdays and Fridays) at a fixed price of 750 dirhams for one-way travel in economy class.
- Marrakech-Dakhla: Two weekly flights (Mondays and Thursdays) at a price of 800 dirhams for one-way travel in economy class.
Strengthening Connections from Rabat and Casablanca
In the capital Rabat, the frequency of flights to Laayoune and Dakhla has been increased to three weekly flights for each route, with improved departure and arrival timings for the comfort of travelers.
Casablanca Airport has also seen an expansion of flight offerings to southern cities:
- Laayoune: 15 weekly flights.
- Guelmim: 5 direct flights without stops in Tan-Tan.
- Tan-Tan: 3 direct flights weekly.
- A new route linking Casablanca to Smara will have two weekly flights (Mondays and Fridays), starting from November 6, 2025, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Green March.
This expansion is expected to facilitate the movement of residents from the southern regions to other cities, in addition to stimulating domestic tourism and attracting foreign visitors through the main air hubs in Casablanca and Marrakech.
This initiative reaffirms Royal Air Maroc’s commitment to its national role as a citizen airline, contributing to comprehensive development and making air connectivity a bridge for communication among the people of the nation.
