Mohammed Oul Rashid: Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, presents a unique humanitarian model in safeguarding dignity and development.

The President of the House of Councillors, Mohammed Oul Rashid, stated that the Kingdom of Morocco, guided by King Mohammed VI, offers a distinctive example in humanitarian work and solidarity diplomacy, combining humanitarian dimensions with field commitment to preserve human dignity and enhance a decent life.

During the plenary session of the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Geneva, on the theme “Commitment to Humanitarian Standards and Support for Humanitarian Work in Times of Crisis,” Oul Rashid highlighted that the Moroccan experience in the southern regions represents a practical embodiment of this approach.

He explained that the people of Moroccan Sahara fully exercise their political and civil rights and freely participate in managing their local and national affairs within a firmly-rooted democratic experience and a development renaissance led by King Mohammed VI.

He added that Moroccan Sahara has today become a space for freedom, participation, and development, and a true embodiment of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, regarded as a realistic and just solution that enjoys increasing support from the international community.

He pointed out that the theme of this parliamentary session reflects the essence of shared responsibility in protecting humanitarian values, affirming that Morocco has made humanitarian diplomacy a fixed choice in its foreign policy, based on practical solidarity rather than mere slogans.

While reviewing Morocco’s efforts to cement humanitarian values, Oul Rashid stressed the kingdom’s consistent position on international crises, particularly the situation in Gaza, where King Mohammed VI called for an immediate ceasefire, rejected forcible displacement, and ensured the access of humanitarian aid.

He confirmed that Morocco, under royal directives, sent urgent food and medical aid to the Palestinian people, expressing its enduring solidarity with Palestine.

He added that the kingdom welcomed the U.S. announcement regarding the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and called for the implementation of its provisions to ensure a fair and lasting peace in the region.

He also referred to Morocco’s initiatives within the African continent during the COVID-19 pandemic, sending medical aid and mobile hospitals, and launching the African Center for Innovation in Pharmaceutical Industries and Vaccines in Morocco.

He noted that Morocco continues its commitment to international peace and security by establishing the Moroccan Multidisciplinary Peacekeeping Center in 2022 and participating in UN operations, with over 74,000 Moroccan personnel contributing to humanitarian and medical missions in various conflict areas.

Oul Rashid concluded by emphasizing the importance of translating the discussions of this session into practical outcomes that enhance international humanitarian standards, providing humanitarian work with a more sustainable and effective dimension.
