Oman Launches Digital Triangle Project to Enhance Knowledge Economy by 2040
Oman is set to reshape its digital economy through a new strategic project named the Digital Triangle, which aims to elevate the digital economy’s contribution to GDP to 10% by 2040, as part of the Sultanate’s vision for transitioning to a sustainable knowledge-based economy.
The project, announced during the “Comex 2025” exhibition, represents a significant leap in the national digitization journey. It relies on the establishment of three interconnected digital centers through fiber optic networks and submarine cables, serving as a foundation for developing data services, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
Omani authorities believe the project will contribute to diversifying national income sources and attracting foreign investments in technology sectors, as well as enhancing the country’s status as a regional hub for innovation and digital services. It is also expected to create thousands of job opportunities for youth and improve the skills of the national workforce in modern technology fields.
The Omani government has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Data Centers Authority (IDCA) to develop the Digital Triangle, within a partnership aimed at building advanced data center infrastructure and developing global operating standards, alongside launching initiatives in digital education and specialized training.
The project places special emphasis on environmental sustainability through the “Green AI Alliance,” which focuses on utilizing clean energy and consumption efficiency technologies in data centers.
The Digital Triangle is among the most prominent pillars of economic transformation in Oman, representing a practical step toward building a diversified economy based on innovation and knowledge, and strengthening the Sultanate’s position within emerging Arab economies in the fields of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
