Morocco has become the second most popular destination for Americans in Africa after Egypt, according to data from the Global Population Review. It revealed that 2,139 Americans have chosen to reside in the Kingdom, compared to 2,512 in Egypt, out of approximately 2.9 million Americans living abroad.

This growing interest reflects Morocco’s position as an attractive destination for living and working in North Africa, where residents benefit from a safe social environment, moderate living costs, and diverse professional opportunities. Statistics indicate that the number of American men residing in the Kingdom stands at 1,103, compared to 1,036 women, distributed across various Moroccan cities.

Migration experts believe that Morocco, alongside countries like Egypt, Uganda, and Senegal, has become a preferred destination for foreigners seeking long-term residency, as temporary stays often transition into permanent settlement due to the ease of social integration and the warmth of human relationships.

According to the Expat Insider survey, which included over 12,500 expatriates from 174 countries, 44% of participating Americans expressed their intention to stay abroad permanently, while 17% cited emotional reasons related to love or accompanying a partner.

Moreover, 53% of respondents highlighted the low cost of living as one of the main attractions, and 74% stated they feel at home in their host countries. Additionally, 23% of Americans living abroad are retirees who chose locations offering stability and affordable services, making cities like Marrakech, Essaouira, and Tangier top choices.

The presence of Americans in Morocco extends beyond just residency; many contribute to fields such as education, entrepreneurship, and emerging technology, as well as working in civil society organizations and social projects, reflecting the depth of cultural and economic interaction between the two sides.

As this presence increases, Morocco solidifies its position as a global destination that combines a balanced lifestyle with professional opportunities, making it a preferred stop for Americans seeking a different life experience in the heart of Africa.
