Morocco and the European Union Sign Agricultural Agreement Amendment to Strengthen Economic Partnership
Brussels – Today, the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union signed amended exchange letters for the existing agricultural agreement at the headquarters of the European Commission, a step that reflects the strength of their economic and commercial partnership.
The Moroccan side was represented by Ambassador Ahmed Reda Chami. The agreement will be temporarily applied immediately, pending the completion of internal procedures by both parties.
The agreement stipulates that agricultural products coming from the southern regions of the Kingdom will benefit from the same preferential access to the European market as other Moroccan regions, within the framework of the Morocco-European Union partnership agreement.
Technical amendments include the labeling of production origins, such as “Laayoune Sakia El Hamra” and “Dakhla Ouad Eddahab,” to facilitate product access and enhance their value in the eyes of the European consumer.
This agreement comes as part of efforts to strengthen trade relations and reaffirm Morocco’s role as a key economic partner for the European Union in Africa and the Arab world.
Its implementation is expected to support national agricultural GDP, create job opportunities, and attract investments, especially in the southern regions, while paving the way for broader and deeper cooperation with Brussels at both political and economic levels.
