Morocco Accelerates Its Steps Towards Structuring the Video Game Industry

In a ceremony last Friday in Rabat, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bennani, confirmed that Morocco is making tangible progress in structuring its video game industry.

This announcement was made during the graduation ceremony for the first cohort of the “Video Game Innovator” training program, launched in partnership with the French Embassy in Morocco. The minister stated that the kingdom is determined to occupy a place befitting its history and the aspirations of its youth in the field of cultural and creative industries.

Bennani pointed out that the video game industry fundamentally relies on creativity and training, unlike other sectors that need material or logistical resources. He emphasized that young Moroccan talents possess significant creative potential, highlighted by the ISART Talents program, which showcases the quality of local competencies.

The minister also underscored the ability of cultural and creative industries to create decentralized innovation centers throughout the kingdom, contributing to stimulating local dynamics and developing the social and economic fabric.

On his part, Christophe Lecourtier, the French Ambassador to Morocco, stressed the need to renew Franco-Moroccan cooperation to meet contemporary challenges, asserting that the video game sector is a prominent example of joint innovation.

Azad Lousbarounian, Development Director at ISART Digital, praised this “human adventure” that brought together talents from several countries, including France and Morocco, to contribute to building a national video game ecosystem.

The “Video Game Innovator” program enabled about forty young people from 12 regions across the kingdom—including 35% women—to undergo an intensive training year in game development and design, with projects inspired by Moroccan culture and adhering to international production standards.

This initiative comes as part of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between Morocco and France, under the auspices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron, aimed at enhancing cultural and creative industries in the kingdom.
