Moroccan strawberries soar north… finding their place in the Canadian market.
Moroccan strawberries have achieved remarkable success in the Canadian market, with exports doubling in an unprecedented manner over the past three years, reaching nearly 1,900 tons valued at over $19 million between July 2024 and June 2025, according to data from the specialized platform “East Fruit.”
This surge represents a growth of more than seventeen times compared to levels three years ago, positioning Morocco as one of the prominent new suppliers in one of the most competitive markets globally.
The data indicate that the annual growth rate of Moroccan blueberry exports to Canada has reached approximately 160%, reflecting the rapid transformation within the national agriculture sector, particularly in the red fruit segment, which has become a substantial driver of high-value Moroccan exports.
Although the first Moroccan shipments to Canada began in 2008, a consistent and significant presence was established during the 2021-2022 season, when Moroccan producers adopted modern export strategies that emphasized organization, quality, and the ability to meet external demand within precise timeframes.
While the United States continues to lead blueberry supply to Canada, followed by Peru, Mexico, and Chile, Morocco has confidently approached a market share of 2.3%, up from just 0.16% three seasons ago.
The timing of Moroccan exports provides a unique competitive advantage, as the season runs from December to June, covering the demand gap between the end of the Peruvian season and the start of American production, positioning Morocco ideally to supply the Canadian market during this scarcity period.
Reports highlight that this success is not limited to Canada alone but also coincides with a noticeable increase in Moroccan exports to the United States, bolstering Morocco’s image as an emerging agricultural power that combines agricultural innovation, production quality, and competitiveness in high-value global markets.
