Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasna Participates as Guest of Honor at the World Nature Conference in Abu Dhabi
On Thursday, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasna, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, attended the World Nature Conference organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as a guest of honor at the National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi.
Upon her arrival, she was received by Sarah Awad Isa Muslim, the UAE Minister of State for Early Education. The opening ceremony, presided over by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, featured a speech by Her Royal Highness in which she affirmed that protecting the environment and preserving natural ecosystems is a national priority under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
In her address, the princess emphasized that education, community engagement, and innovation are at the heart of the mission of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment. She highlighted the crucial role of youth, particularly in Africa, in building a sustainable and responsible future, integrating modern technologies such as artificial intelligence to better understand and protect ecosystems.
Her Royal Highness presented several key initiatives of the foundation, including the Eco-Schools program, the “Youth Environmental Reporters” initiative, and the “Ocean Without Plastic” campaign aimed at reducing plastic pollution. She also mentioned projects for the protection and rehabilitation of natural sites such as the palms of Marrakech and the Ramsar-listed sites in Al Marsa, Wadi Dahab, and Dakhla. Additionally, she underscored the use of sports as a means of raising awareness and mobilizing efforts to protect nature.
The day’s events included meetings with international experts and scientists, among them Dr. Sylvia Earle, the American oceanographer and founder of Mission Blue. Participants also visited pavilions representing the UAE, the IUCN, and Africa. The World Nature Conference serves as a key platform for coordinating global efforts in environmental conservation, combating climate change, and promoting sustainable development.
