Hassan Tarek: The Mediator’s Institution as a Bridge of Trust Between the State and Citizens
Mediator of the Kingdom, Hassan Tarek, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the Mediator’s Institution has become a pivotal player in strengthening the connection between the state and citizens through monitoring administrative dysfunctions and defending individuals’ fundamental rights.
During the opening of a training session for assistants of members of the Ombudsman Association and Francophone mediators, Tarek explained that the institution also plays a strategic role in protecting citizens’ rights by providing practical proposals to improve administrative governance and enhance the dynamics of human rights in Morocco.
He noted that the institution, as an independent constitutional body, has engaged in a path aimed at preparing national reports, participating in meetings with UN rapporteurs, monitoring the implementation of recommendations, and formulating proposals to enhance administrative performance and ensure fairness for individuals.
He added that the training session, organized on the theme “Towards Institutional Contribution to the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism,” aims to develop the capacities of Francophone mediators in preparing and monitoring national reports, as well as strengthening the role of mediation institutions in implementing human rights recommendations.
On his part, David Danvoy, representative of the Ombudsman Association and Francophone mediators, emphasized that mediation institutions contribute to bringing administration closer to citizens and ensuring the protection of rights, calling for enhanced cooperation among Francophone mediators to exchange experiences and expertise.
Danvoy praised the initiatives of the Mediator’s Institution, particularly the “Governance Forums” program, which promotes transparency and communication within public institutions.
For his part, Hery Philippe Rakotoarison, representative of the Mediator’s Institution in Madagascar, considered this training session an opportunity to discuss administrative challenges and exchange experiences regarding the contribution of mediation institutions to support the Universal Periodic Review mechanism, ensuring a better response to citizens’ aspirations.
This session, which continues until October 23, features the participation of 19 institutions from 16 Francophone countries, creating an open space to exchange experiences on the role of mediation institutions in enhancing governance and human rights.
