Dakhla: Foiling an Attempt to Smuggle Over 53 Kilograms of Cocaine at the Karakara Border Crossing

A joint security operation conducted by national security forces and customs officials on the evening of Saturday, October 4, thwarted an international drug smuggling attempt at the Karakara border crossing south of Dakhla, resulting in the seizure of 53 kilograms and 630 grams of cocaine.

The inspection process, which used trained police dogs, uncovered the drugs carefully concealed within the metallic structure of an international transport truck bearing foreign license plates. The vehicle had arrived from a sub-Saharan African country, and its driver abandoned it at the border crossing.

The specialized security department has opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor to determine the circumstances surrounding this operation, identify possible accomplices, and trace the network’s connections within Morocco and abroad.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts by security and customs authorities at the Karakara border crossing aimed at combating international drug smuggling and countering various forms of cross-border crime.
