China Tests the Fastest High-Speed Train in the World
China has begun testing the fastest high-speed train in the world, the CR450, ahead of its entry into service on one of the country’s high-speed rail lines, where it recorded a speed of 453 kilometers per hour.
The Chinese Science and Technology newspaper reported yesterday that the CR450 series, designed for a maximum testing speed of 450 kilometers per hour and a commercial operating speed of 400 kilometers per hour, is currently undergoing qualification tests on the high-speed rail line connecting Shanghai in Eastern China to Chengdu in the Southwest.
This train can accelerate from a standstill to 350 kilometers per hour in just 4 minutes and 40 seconds, with two trains from this series setting a record during a simultaneous pass at a relative speed of 896 kilometers per hour.
Compared to the previous CR400 model, the CR450 features a longer, more aerodynamic nose, a 20-centimeter reduction in roof height, and a weight decrease of 50 tons, resulting in a 22% reduction in aerodynamic drag.
Currently, CR400 Fuxing high-speed trains operate at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
The CR450 is expected to cover a distance of 600,000 kilometers without any incidents before receiving approval for passenger transport.
