The Chinese government has decided to enhance the education sector in rural areas by hiring 7,000 retired teachers to work in compulsory education schools this year, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.
This initiative is part of a national plan launched by the government in 2018, aimed at improving the quality of education in rural regions by leveraging the experience of retired teachers.
The statement clarified that the campaign primarily targets school principals, faculty members, and experienced teachers under the age of 65.
These teachers will be distributed to schools located in provinces and towns that have previously suffered from poverty, as well as border and remote areas still facing shortages in educational resources, in an effort to bridge gaps and enhance the quality of basic education throughout China.
