Blue Economy: Morocco Bets on Strategic Valorization of Its Marine Domain

The Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdul Latif Loudiyi, confirmed that Morocco today places the valorization of its marine domain at the heart of its new development model.

Loudiyi explained that this strategic choice reflects an ambitious vision aimed at optimizing marine resource investment, enhancing maritime security, and encouraging investment in ports, fisheries, logistics, and biodiversity, along with promoting the blue economy in all its components.

Morocco boasts a coastline that stretches for thousands of kilometers, granting it enormous potential, including rich fishing areas, unique marine biodiversity, active coastal navigation, as well as underwater resources and attractive tourist areas. Loudiyi emphasized the necessity of establishing strict governance, developing port infrastructures, enhancing monitoring and marine research capabilities, and stimulating partnerships between the public and private sectors.

The new maritime strategy also aims to tackle major challenges such as protecting the marine environment, combating pollution and overexploitation, adapting to climate change including rising sea levels, and integrating coastal populations into the developmental dynamics.

Through this approach, Morocco seeks to diversify its economy, enhance food security, and create new job opportunities, ensuring balanced and sustainable territorial development.
