Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa hosted the kickoff of the qualifying rounds for the second edition of the Noble Hadith Contest on Sunday, organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars through its branch in Ethiopia. This event saw participation from over fifty contestants from various regions of the country, aiming to strengthen the youth’s connection to the Noble Sunnah.
Participants will compete in three main categories: memorizing forty hadiths along with their chain of narration without questions about the narrators and the meanings of terms; comprehending thirty-five hadith texts while identifying the endpoint of the chain and understanding the meanings of the terms; and memorizing twenty-five hadiths related to jurisprudence while explaining the derived legal benefits from them.
During the opening ceremony, organized in partnership with the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Ethiopia, Othman Al-Saqali Hussaini, the financial director of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars, emphasized that this contest represents the significant care that the Commander of the Faithful, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, gives to the Noble Hadith, regarded as the second source of Islamic legislation after the Holy Quran.
Al-Saqali Hussaini mentioned that this initiative falls within the vision of His Majesty aimed at promoting values of moderation and balance, as well as strengthening ties of unity and solidarity among African peoples, highlighting that the organization of these qualifiers coincides with the royal message sent to the Supreme Scientific Council on the occasion of the fifteen-hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
In turn, Idris Mohammed Ali, representative of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Ethiopia, praised this initiative, expressing his appreciation for the significant role played by the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars, under the leadership of His Majesty, in strengthening religious and cultural relations between Morocco and Ethiopia, and in promoting authentic Islamic values on the continent.
The contest aims to enhance the status of the Noble Sunnah in the minds of African youth and encourage them to emulate the noble character of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, through a scientific event conducted across 48 branches of the foundation spread throughout various African countries.
