257 New Buses Enter Service as Part of National Public Urban Transport Program

The Port of Casablanca witnessed the delivery of 257 new buses on Monday, marking the launch of the national public urban transport program for the period 2025-2029. The initiative aims to provide Moroccan cities with modern and efficient urban transit solutions.

Several cities will benefit from this first batch, including Marrakech (49 buses), Agadir (40), Tangier (56), Tetouan (68), and Benslimane (44).

Abdel Aziz Faris, General Director of the local development company “Marrakech Mobility,” explained that these buses are part of a new model for delegated management contracts. He noted that Marrakech will soon receive an additional 97 buses, bringing its total fleet to 207 by the beginning of November.

Faris emphasized that the buses will help meet the growing demand for public transport. They will be equipped with smart technology systems that will allow both authorities and users to access accurate information about the network and bus frequencies, along with options for purchasing tickets electronically or through automated kiosks and mobile applications.

The investment for this new program is approximately 11 billion dirhams and encompasses 37 delegated authorities covering 84 cities and urban centers, with around 3,800 buses featuring smart systems scheduled for acquisition.

This program represents a significant step toward establishing a new governance model for sustainable mobility in Morocco, aligning with the royal directives outlined in King Mohammed VI’s message from December 2024 during the second national forum on advanced regionalization held in Tangier.
