King Mohammed VI has greenlit the launch of a series of major rail projects in Casablanca aimed at transforming transportation within the city and enhancing connectivity with other urban centers.
In this context, the National Office of Railways commenced in early September the execution of significant infrastructure works in the Casablanca region as part of the high-speed train project linking Kenitra and Marrakech. This initiative aims to establish a modern railway network that meets current needs and supports future growth, particularly along the corridor extending between Mohammedia and Naciri.
The office stated in a communiqué that these works will include the addition of new tracks, bringing the total to six: two for high-speed trains, two for commuter trains, and two for other types of trains. This requires the expansion of more than 40 engineering structures in the area. Furthermore, the project will be bolstered by a modern signaling system, new stations specifically for high-speed trains and others for commuter services, as well as the electrification of 600 kilometers of tracks and the construction of nine specialized maintenance centers.
These works will span from September 2025 to the end of 2027 and will be carried out in consecutive phases, necessitating special programs for train operations, with both nighttime and sometimes daytime construction schedules. The office acknowledged that this process may temporarily affect the duration of some journeys and will require the closure of certain stations for renovations, such as the Casa Port station.
The same source emphasized that the first phase, starting on September 15, will involve a comprehensive rescheduling of passenger train times while maintaining regular service. A detailed plan has been prepared to minimize the impact of this work and ensure continuous services are provided in a comfortable and safe manner, with the mobilization of qualified human resources and exceptional material capabilities.
To communicate with travelers, the office announced that starting from September 8, a special mechanism will be activated to provide guidance and assistance at main stations, allowing customers to stay updated through its official platforms: the commercial website (www.oncf-voyages.ma), the call center 2255, the “ONCF VOYAGES” app, the official WhatsApp channel, and the “M’ONCF” service at the number 0667652255.
The communiqué noted that the high-speed train project linking Kenitra and Marrakech, which the king inaugurated on April 24, 2025, has entered a critical phase characterized by noticeable progress at an accelerated pace, aligning with the ongoing modernization efforts in the kingdom.
This project extends the high-speed line from Tangier to Kenitra by approximately 430 kilometers, enhancing the integration between major hubs and connecting the northern and southern regions of the country. Travel time between Tangier and Marrakech is expected to be reduced to just two hours and forty minutes, marking a qualitative leap that will provide rapid, comfortable, and sustainable transportation, while also facilitating connectivity to strategic centers like airports and sports venues, and boosting services directed at major urban areas.
