The security services in Casablanca have arrested 24 individuals caught obstructing traffic on the city’s internal highway during unauthorized protests on September 28, 2025.

Abdel Latif Saadi, the first deputy attorney general at the Casablanca appeals court, confirmed to the Moroccan News Agency that some of the arrested were masked, and their actions resulted in a complete halt of traffic, causing damage to road users and disrupting freedom of movement.

He explained that the detained adults were placed under judicial supervision, while minors were subjected to retention measures for investigation, in accordance with legal standards. Saadi added that the intervention of public forces to reopen the road was ineffective, which necessitated the involvement of the judiciary police, who prepared inspection reports on the matter.

Mr. Saadi noted that these actions do not fall within the framework of peaceful protest, but rather constitute a violation of the law punishable by law. Following the completion of investigations, the public prosecutor decided to request an investigation into 18 adults suspected of committing the crime of obstructing traffic and disrupting transportation, along with drug use for some of them, with a request for their detention, while 6 minors were referred to the youth judge.

Mr. Saadi affirmed that the public prosecutor is keen to ensure that citizens exercise their freedoms within the law, while also firmly addressing any violations that affect the rights and freedoms of others.
