Papua New Guinea Reaffirms Its Support for the Autonomy Plan in Moroccan Sahara
Papua New Guinea has reiterated its strong support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, emphasizing that the autonomy plan presented by Morocco is a viable and lasting solution to the regional conflict. These affirmations were reiterated on several occasions, particularly on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During this meeting, Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, and his Papua New Guinean counterpart praised the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, underscoring the importance of enhancing cooperation, particularly in international forums.
Furthermore, Papua New Guinea underscored that it sees Morocco as a reliable partner despite the geographic distance, adding that the autonomy plan established in 2007 respects the principles of the United Nations Charter and relevant resolutions issued by the Security Council.
In addition, they commended the progress made in the southern regions of Morocco, particularly within the framework of the new development model launched in 2015, which aims to empower local populations and improve their social and economic conditions.
