Observers: Zefzafi Slaps the Kabrane System

The recent statements by Nasser Zefzafi, leader of what is known as the “Hirak Rif,” have dealt a significant blow to the Algerian regime and its media outlets, which have relentlessly promoted a false narrative of “Rif separatism” from Morocco for years. Zefzafi, during an emotional moment at his father’s funeral, declared unequivocally that his homeland is not just the Rif, but every inch of Morocco.
This explicit stance aims to bury one of the tools that the Algerian propaganda machine has exploited in its desperate battle against Morocco’s territorial integrity. The current regime in Algeria, grappling with a crisis of legitimacy and severe economic and social challenges, has resorted to projecting its problems abroad by fabricating animosity towards Morocco and inflating internal issues that no longer convince even those at the heart of them.
Rights advocates and observers affirmed that Zefzafi’s words carry clear messages, not only for Moroccans but primarily for the Algerian regime: the Rif is Moroccan, and Moroccans, despite their differing opinions, unite on national principles. This undermines the narrative of the Kabrane regime, which has only succeeded in deepening its diplomatic isolation and embarrassing its few allies.
Analysts believe that the collapse of the “Rif” card from Algeria’s arsenal, following the prior failure of the “Polisario” card in several international forums, reflects the bankruptcy of the ruling regime in Algeria, which continues to cling to the myth of “Morocco as the enemy” to cover up its inability to respond to its people’s demands.
Thus, Zefzafi has not only addressed Moroccans but has unintentionally dealt a blow to the Kabrane propaganda, which has sought to build its political project on a fabricated enmity with the Kingdom of Morocco for decades. However, the truth prevails: Morocco is unified from Tangier to Lagouira, while the Algerian regime remains mired in its internal crises, searching for an external enemy to justify its ongoing failures.
