Morocco: Construction of the Largest Artificial Intelligence Factory in Africa to Host the Latest Technologies with $720 Million Investment

Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, founder of Cassava Technologies, announced the launch of an advanced artificial intelligence factory in Morocco as part of a massive project that includes five factories across Africa, located in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco, with a total investment estimated at around $720 million.

The Moroccan factory, expected to commence operations within the next three to four years, will feature the latest technologies in algorithm development, chip manufacturing, and intelligent systems. It will provide supercomputing capabilities powered by thousands of graphic processing units from Nvidia, enabling researchers and startups to develop artificial intelligence applications locally within the African continent.

This project is part of the “Sovereign AI Cloud” strategy, aimed at empowering African countries to build advanced digital infrastructure and reduce dependence on foreign cloud servers, thereby enhancing their technological independence.

Experts note that the project reflects Morocco’s ambition to strengthen its position as a leading technological hub in Africa, attract global companies, and train a new generation of national talents capable of keeping pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is also expected to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities and support scientific research and innovation.

Observers are keenly awaiting the announcement of the project’s technical details, the host city, and the complete implementation schedule, a move that will place Morocco among the leading countries betting on artificial intelligence as a driver for economic growth and achieving sustainable development across the continent.
