The head of the government, Aziz Akhannouch, reaffirmed at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Morocco’s steadfast position based on a strong belief that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Kingdom, Akhannouch explained that this solution cannot be delayed or marginalized, but must represent an urgent political and moral commitment from the international community. He emphasized the necessity of launching a serious political process based on credibility, with a clear timeline that leads to the empowerment of the Palestinian people in their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and Gaza as an integral part of it.

The head of government also stressed the importance of integrating the economic aspect into the peace process, noting that security and stability are inseparable from mutual prosperity. He called for increased support for the Palestinian Authority, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, to strengthen its institutions and enable it to meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people for security, dignity, and development. He added that establishing a sustainable regional security system, based on international law and mutual respect, is a necessary condition to achieve this goal.

Regarding Al-Quds Al-Sharif, Akhannouch highlighted Morocco’s unwavering commitment to defending Islamic and Christian holy sites, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which receives special attention from King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as President of the Al-Quds Committee. He pointed out the field role of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, the executive arm of the committee, through tangible projects aimed at protecting the cultural identity of the city, preserving its legal status, and supporting the resilience and legitimate rights of the Palestinians.
