Mr. Mohammed Saad Berrada, Minister of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports, held a press conference at the National Training and Conference Center in Rabat, where he presented the key updates for the 2025/2026 school year, as part of the implementation of the 2022-2026 road map aimed at rebuilding public education on the foundations of quality, equity, and equal opportunities.
The minister emphasized that this school year represents a pivotal moment in the reform journey, focusing on flagship institutional projects, the collective mobilization of educational and administrative staff, and the support for transformation through material and digital resources.
Key highlights from the conference included:
Flagship Institutions: The number of primary education institutions has reached 4,626, including an additional 2,000 schools, benefiting nearly two million students (56% of the total). In the middle school sector, the number of institutions reached 786, with 554 additional schools, covering around 700,000 students.
Enrollment: This season recorded a total of 8,271,256 students enrolled, including 7,004,533 in public education (+3.4%) and 1,266,723 in private schools, with 730,000 newly enrolled in the first grade (+7.4%).
Preschool Education: More than 2,500 new classrooms have been established, benefiting 985,375 children this season (+4.5%), including 663,000 in public education (67% of total children).
Training Educators: A total of 5,000 educators will receive basic training, 3,841 will undergo supplementary training, and 13,800 will participate in continuous training, alongside the development of a quality assessment system and a review of the preschool education framework.
Educational Offer: 169 new institutions have been established, including 72 in rural areas, with an addition of 2,461 classrooms (56% in rural settings) and 15 dormitories. The total number of teaching staff has reached 299,129, with 14,000 new graduates.
Social Support: This season, 3,275,852 students benefit from scholarships, 80,245 from school meal services, 216,959 from dormitories, and 683,244 from school transportation (+5%).
Linguistic Diversity: The teaching of Tamazight has been expanded to 4,450 institutions (52.5% coverage), with the activation of a digital platform for language learning, alongside the introduction of English language instruction in middle schools and the provision of educational materials and digital aids.
Governance and Management: The ministry’s organizational structure will be finalized, performance contracts will be activated, integrated school projects will be enhanced, the legislative and regulatory plan will be completed, and mechanisms will be established to measure education quality.
The minister concluded by affirming that these measures reflect a commitment to enhancing the quality of learning, expanding the educational offer, and reinforcing equity and equal opportunities in line with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Following the conference, the minister conducted a field visit to Imam Al-Shafi’i School and Al-Khwarizmi Junior High School in Youssoufia to assess the educational process, evaluate the infrastructure, and observe the interaction between students and educational staff, allowing journalists to follow the efforts to improve education quality on the ground.
