Hamouchi Welcomes French Intelligence Official to Discuss Enhancing Security Cooperation

Hamouchi Meets French Intelligence Chief to Discuss Strengthening Security Cooperation

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdelatif Hamouchi, held discussions yesterday in Rabat with the Director General of the French Internal Security, Céline Berthon, who was accompanied by a high-level security delegation.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, the talks focused on developing bilateral cooperation in the security sector and enhancing partnerships to address regional and international challenges, particularly terrorist threats in the Sahel and Sahara regions.

Both sides emphasized the importance of reinforcing joint security operations that have proven effective in countering previous terrorist threats, while also underscoring the need to strengthen coordination mechanisms to combat espionage and hostilities directed against both countries.

The French official praised the contributions of Moroccan security agencies in securing the Paris 2024 Olympics, highlighting the significance of sharing expertise in preparation for Morocco hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 and the World Cup in 2030 in partnership with Spain and Portugal.

The statement affirmed that this meeting reflects the importance of Moroccan-French cooperation in the security field as a successful model for coordination in combating terrorism, extremism, and irregular migration, within a proactive mutual vision to address transnational threats.
