Google Injects £5 Billion into the UK Ahead of Trump’s Visit

In a move affirming London’s strategic role on the global technology map, Google has announced a substantial investment of £5 billion (approximately $6.8 billion) in the United Kingdom over the next two years, primarily aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure and developing artificial intelligence.

The new investment includes the establishment of a new data center and the expansion of research and development activities, particularly through the company’s AI lab, DeepMind, located in the British capital. This announcement coincided with the opening of a data center in Waltham Cross, north London, which cost $1 billion and was announced last year.

This initiative comes amid a sensitive political and diplomatic backdrop, as Britain prepares to welcome U.S. President Donald Trump on September 17 and 18, during his second official visit to the country after his first in 2019.

Trump will be accompanied by a delegation of prominent business leaders, especially from the tech sector, with expectations of additional investments being announced and a new technology agreement to be signed between London and Washington during this visit.
