Will the Tangier Stadium Host the Congo Match?
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation is searching for a stadium to host the national team’s match against the Congo, scheduled for next October, as part of the final round of World Cup 2026 qualifiers, following the early qualification of the Black Atlas team.
A well-informed source told “Express TV” that the Grand Tangier Stadium remains one of the main contenders to host the match. The Federation is awaiting a report from the officials overseeing the stadium’s refurbishment, which is nearing completion, to declare it ready for use and introduce it to Moroccan and international audiences, showcasing Morocco’s sports infrastructure. This is in line with preparations to host the Africa Cup of Nations next December and the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
The same source noted that the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in the capital, Rabat, serves as a backup option to host the match in case the Grand Tangier Stadium’s opening is delayed. He added that the pace of work in the stadiums set to host the Africa Cup of Nations is accelerating under the daily supervision of the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, as part of King Mohammed VI’s vision to ensure the success of Morocco’s World Cup hosting.
