Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, during his participation in the fifth phase of the national communication tour of the National Rally of Independents, “Path of Achievements,” in the Marrakech-Safi region, affirmed that the reforms initiated by the government in the health sector are no longer confined to papers and laws, but citizens can feel their impact directly on the ground.
Akhannouch explained that government efforts have focused on increasing budgets and updating the legal framework, highlighting that several university hospitals will open this year, with more joining next year to cover various regions of the kingdom.
He pointed out that the reform process includes the establishment of local health groups, with the first experiment launched in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, aiming to expand this model to other areas. He emphasized that these groups will have specific resources and decision-making autonomy, which will provide a significant boost to the health system.
Conversely, the Prime Minister acknowledged the existence of accumulated difficulties, describing them as a “heavy legacy” that the sector suffers from. He stated that he understands the demands from some voices calling for immediate and comprehensive solutions, but he stressed that the government is committed to addressing these challenges gradually, within available capacities.
Akhannouch also congratulated Health and Social Protection Minister Ameen Tehroui on his recent field visits to several hospitals, confirming that these visits helped to closely observe the daily constraints faced by citizens, which require effective intervention from central and local administrations.
The Prime Minister did not miss the opportunity to thank health workers for their sacrifices and vital roles, simultaneously calling for the provision of the necessary means for them to perform their duties optimally. However, he also cautioned about a limited group of workers within the sector who do not adhere to their professional obligations, despite the oath they took upon graduation, necessitating firm actions against them.
Akhannouch concluded by affirming that he will not allow the depletion of public sector doctors toward other areas in a way that harms citizens’ interests, emphasizing that the Minister of Health has received clear instructions to intervene when necessary and ensure legal compliance in this regard.
