Report from Meteorological Organization Announces Shrinking Ozone Hole
The World Meteorological Organization stated on Tuesday that the ozone hole in 2024 was smaller compared to the period between 2020 and 2023.
The latest ozone bulletin, released by the UN-affiliated organization on the occasion of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, noted that the size of the hole was also below its average level from 1990 to 2020.
The organization attributed this improvement partially to natural weather phenomena causing annual fluctuations. However, it emphasized that the critical factor has been the decline in the use of ozone-depleting substances manufactured by humans over the past decades, which were previously used in refrigeration, air conditioning, fire-fighting foams, and hair sprays.
