Marrakech Governor Supervises Strategic Infrastructure Projects in Preparation for the 2030 World Cup

On Saturday, August 30, 2025, Rashid Benchikh, Governor of the Marrakech-Safi region and acting head of the Marrakech Prefecture, oversaw the progress of several major development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, improving transportation conditions, and increasing the city’s appeal as part of preparations for hosting the 2030 World Cup.

These projects include the development of road networks leading to the Marrakech Grand Stadium, with a budget of 580 million dirhams, the construction of underground passages and road signage on the northwestern ring road costing 195 million dirhams, as well as the renovation of Mohammed V Street for 42 million dirhams, and the creation of an underground parking facility in 16 November Square at a cost of 100 million dirhams, in addition to other projects such as the development of Ain Itti area and improvements to Allal El Fassi Street.

The total budget for these projects exceeds 917 million dirhams, reflecting a substantial investment aimed at transforming Marrakech into a modern city capable of hosting major global events and providing a comprehensive urban experience for both residents and visitors alike.

These initiatives align with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which seeks to develop Marrakech and enhance its status as a cultural hub for Morocco, embodying major reforms as a catalyst for development. The acting governor affirmed that these projects represent a genuine step in cementing the city’s position as a modern, open, and integrated space, with a role that extends beyond merely preparing for the 2030 World Cup.

The follow-up on these projects aims to expedite progress, ensure quality, and adhere to timelines, while enhancing coordination among various stakeholders to ensure the success of these major works and reinforce Marrakech’s position as one of the world’s leading cities.
